There's a snake in my boots!!!!
Not really, though there was a baby rattlesnake in our backyard last week. I got home from work and saw Russell and his friend Joe in the side yard looking into the backyard. I asked what they were doing and they said that there had been rattlesnake in the backyard. My immediate reaction was "Oh my gosh, are the dogs back there?"
Russell said that Scott had put them inside while he caught it. Now my next reaction "Oh my gosh, is Scott still alive?" I rushed inside and found Scott sitting on the couch. He was fine and the snake was in a bucket in the backyard (yes, there was a lid on it, as I later discovered).
Russell and Joe had discovered the snake curled up against the pool, with all of the dogs barking at it. I'm not sure how long that had been going on, but luckily none of them were hurt. Especially lucky for Wesley Weiners because when he feels threatened, he'll lunge and bark at things (the vaccuum, the hair dryer, other loud things). I double checked that none of them had been bitten by giving them extra long baths that night and running checks over every inch of them (they were not happy with the baths).
Scott tried calling animal control that evening, but they were already closed, so he had to call the next day. They sent a lady right away. She grabbed it out of the bucket with a grabber, took it to the front yard and chopped its head off. And that was that. For a couple of days I checked for snakes before I let the dogs into the backyard, but still haven't discovered any.
